We are pleased to announce that we have been awarded a $15,000 grant under the NSW Environment Protection Authority's Wood Smoke Reduction Program. This program will be rolled out through 2014.

Wood smoke has been recognised as a large contributor to air pollution often resulting in the release of noxious gases and fine particles potentially harmful to the environment and human health.

To reduce the impacts of wood smoke, the program will involve:

  • Educating the community on correct operation of wood heaters
  • Increasing community awareness of cleaner forms of heating
  • Offering of cash incentives to owners of old, polluting wood heaters to move towards cleaner forms of heating
  • Smoky chimney surveys to ensure wood heaters in operation do not emit excessive smoke
  • Offering of cash rebates for professional wood heater and flue cleaning undertaken this winter.

Cash incentives available from 1 June

In an effort to reduce air pollution caused by poorly operated or old wood heaters City of Canada Bay together with NSW Environment Protection Authority are offering the following cash incentives for a limited period of time.
